Youth Guarantee
Before I was elected as an MP, I worked in delivering a space for children and young people in my local community through adventure playgrounds, youth hubs, etc. I pride myself in creating real opportunities for young people throughout Ayr, Carrick and Cumnock, backing major new investment through the Government’s expanded Youth Guarantee. With £820 million of additional funding, this national programme will help 16-24-year-olds who are currently out of work, education or training – including the 450 young people locally who need support to get on in life.
Thanks to this investment, new Youth Hubs will be created in communities across the constituency. These centres will offer practical, life-changing support such as CV guidance, skills training, mental health support, housing advice and careers coaching. The package also includes hundreds of thousands of new training and work-experience placements, alongside a Jobs Guarantee providing six months of fully subsidised paid employment for long-term unemployed 18-21-year-olds on Universal Credit.
I have always championed the need for stronger support for young people, and this programme reflects my commitment to ensuring no young person in Ayrshire is left behind. By securing investments in skills, training and employment, I am pushing to build a brighter future for the next generation whilst also strengthening the local economy at the same time.
